About the message:
This letter from GOP Sen. Tim Neville's sister-in-law, Julie Williams, urges voters to vote for him against Democrat Tammy Story in the western Jefferson County district that includes other mountain communities.
Williams is a former Jefferson County school board member who was recalled in 2015, an effort in which Story was heavily involved. The letter recounts Williams' allegations that her autistic son was enticed to protest in favor of the recall at his high school. Williams made the allegations during the recall, the school district reviewed videos from the school, and found no evidence to substantiate her claims according to a response to a public records request.
This letter doesn't say who paid for it; the return address is Williams' name and a post office box. Colorado law requires those who spend $1,000 or more to register as an independent spending committee. We've concluded that the Neville campaign paid for the letter based on a similar robocall; state law doesn't require written disclosure on campaign literature paid for by candidate committees.
