Message tone: negative
About the message:
This mailer from the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners super PAC says Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis "wants to disarm potential victims" and repeats allegations that a variety of fact-checks have found misleading.
The mailer cites a "red flag" bill supported by some Republicans and supported by Polis that would allow law enforcement to temporarily confiscate firearms from the mentally ill or those considered harmful to themselve or others.
Polis faces Republican Treasurer Walker Stapleton in the November election.
About the messenger: Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is a gun-rights organization that considers itself more conservative than the National Rifle Association. It supports open carry, carrying of concealed guns without permits, unlimited magazine capacities, bump stocks and more.
The messenger's money: The group's biggest donor is Tatnall Hillman, of Aspen, the 6th largest individual Colorado donor in the 2018 election cycle.
