Message tone: negative
About the message: This TV ad from the newly formed Clean Up Congress PAC criticizes GOP U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn for voting to continue funding of Planned Parenthood in a recent budget bill. It says that would fund more than 1 million abortions, even though Planned Parenthood can't use taxpayer money for such services. It features others who voted against the budget bill, including Rep. Ken Buck, of Greeley. "When it mattered, he failed to protect the unborn," it says. And it refers viewers to a website criticizing Lamborn.
Again, federal money can't be used to pay for abortions. Here's the Colorado Peak Politics take on the ad.
Also, GOP Rep. Scott Tipton, who represents Pueblo and Western Slope, also voted for House Resolution 1825, while Buck and Republican Rep. Mike Coffman voted against it.
Lamborn faces four challengers in the June 26 Republican primary.
It won't be possible to find out who paid for the ad until mid-July.
About the messenger: Clean Up Congress is a federal PAC formed in mid-May. Their website says the group is "putting fuel on the fire of the 'Drain the Swamp' movement."
The group's ads are being placed by Bullhorn Communication, a Colorado Springs company registered to Kyle Fisk, who served as a spokesman for an April effort to keep Lamborn off the ballot.
The messenger's money: The group received $25,000 from Los Angeles financier Benjamin Hom, $16,000 from The Cigarette Store in Boulder, and $10,000 from Fourth Estate Publishing in Colorado Springs. The Cigarette Store is owned by Terry Gallgher, while Fourth Estate is owned by Colorado Springs businessman Timothy C. Hoiles.
